Training Tuesday - Encouraging "Trainer"

First, my disclaimer. I am NOT a certified personal trainer. I have taken 0 classes on how to properly train a client. However, I have been working out weekly with a personal trainer for 2.5 years and I workout 3-4 days a week on my own. I am not a fitness expert, but I feel comfortable in a gym setting.

Ever since my sister got engaged, she has been putting a little more focus on her fitness and diet. She calls it her "bridal bootcamp." She has always enjoyed going on runs (well, more like jogs, we both aren't really "runners"), then we both bought a LivingSocial deal for classes at a local women's gym. She liked going to the classes, which I thought was great. I kept encouraging her to consider joining my gym so we could workout together. It took a few months, but I finally convinced her to sign up!

Now that she has joined my gym, she has been calling me her "trainer." I am flattered by the compliment but I feel a little pressure to help whip her into shape! I am trying to modify my workouts to make them a little more simple/less intense.

I have really enjoyed having a workout partner, even if I don't workout at my usual pace. On the days that I'm traveling, my sister asked me to build workouts for her. I have been using knowledge from my workouts with my amazing trainer, as well as moves I find from FitnessMagazine.com. I usually set up her workouts a little differently than my usual workouts:

Warmup on the treadmilll for 2 minutes
Do 3 sets of 3 exercises
Do 3 30 second sprints (30 seconds on, 30 seconds off)
Do 3 sets of 3 exercises
Do 3 30 second sprints
Do 3 sets of 1-2 ab exercises
Stretch

Do you have someone that pushes you to workout? Or are you someone else's motivation?

  1. I just need some sort of exercise routine...anything! I am horrible with it. And I made that style board on a website called Polyvore. You should go play around with it. It's fun! ;)
